Special Cakes

Well, I am starting to enjoy making cakes for my nieces and nephew, I would not call myself a professional, but I think that I am getting pretty good at it.

My first attempt was for Oliver's 2nd Birthday, I made him a Thomas the Tank Engine Cake. I moulded the face of Thomas by hand using fondant - froze the actual cake, then cut it and shaped it into the train. I then covered the train with fondant.

Next attempt was a Cake for Jorja's 4th birthday - this was a Barbie Cake exactly how she wanted it - I wanted to do something a little different to the usual barbie and a dress sort of cake - but she had her mind set on this - so this is what she got.

I made a heffalump cake for Kyra's 1st birthday, but this was a last minute cake and I wouldn't call it one of the good ones - but all the children knew it was heffalump, and in the end that is all that matters.

My latest cake I did was for Oliver's 3rd birthday - he asked for a Little Einsteins cake. I searched on the net and found a cake someone else had done, and I decided to replicate it - I moulded all the faces out of fondant. Got my niece jessice to make the cake for me as I was running out of time - once the cake had cooled, I cut and moulded it into the rocket shape and covered it with fondant icing - it was an istant hit with Oliver - he loved it.

I am now thinking forward to Rachel's 9th birthday, I need to ask her what cake she wants - but I have definitely decided this is a hobbie I quite enjoy and I am reasonably good at.
